Off Grid 12V Ultra Violet System / 9.5L Min Flow Rate with Pre-Filter
ClearLightâ„¢ 12 Volt Ultra Violet System - 9.5L per min
The 'perfect solution' for people with private water supplies who are "off grid"
This is one of the smallest Ultra Violet systems we stock.
It's usually sited in an RV / campervan or a small static property with a flow rate below 9.5 litres per minute that does not have mains electricity. (You could eaither have to it supply a drinking tap only or depending on the pressure / flow rate not being exceeded you might be able to use it on all the water in the property.
Is This the Right Size for You?
Typically this would suit a very small home, for example a one bedroom cottage aka a "bothy" in Scotland, or a "gite" in France.
But UltraViolet filters should be sized according to the flow rate of water going through them.
Flow rate is different to water pressure ie "Bar". (This is because, for example, 3 Bar of pressure will result in a different flow rate on a 15 mm vs a 22mm diameter pipe).
You can read more about your flow rate, and how to measure it here
Check the UV Filter Size Chart
There's no point in getting a UV filter that's either too large or too small. Checkout this chart where you can click through to your right size filter.
It includes the variations between being "off grid" vs on normal mains electricity

Pre Filters
UV systems are long thin tubes with what looks like a fluorescent bulb sitting in the middle. (This is the UV lamp).
The incoming water flows down the tube, around the UV light/lamp.
Any micro-organism (ie bacteria and viruses) that are hit by the light will be rendered harmless.
However any sediment / particles might create a "shadow effect" / "umbrella effect" and help the micro-organism to escape bieng exposed to the UV light.
The pre-filter removes these sediment / particles.
Running Costs
The UV lamp/bulb needs changing every 12 months. This is regardless of usage. (For example; if you go away for a few months, to ensure total safety you would still need to change the lamp/bulb 12 months after installation.
Cost of replacement lamp for this unit £67 (Check the product page for current quantity / discount deals)
The pre filters change rate will vary. It depends on how much sediment / dirt they trap. This varies with the quality of your local incoming water - which can change after storms etc.
Assume the pre filter cartridges will last at least three months
Cost of replacement pre-filter cartridge for this unit £15.95 (Check the product page for current quantity / discount deals)
